ZUUM-In Fest call-for-plays announced!

Zero Untitled “ZUUM In” Festival

Zero Untitled is officially announcing our first ever ZUUM-IN Digital Play Festival, or as we are calling it ZUUM In Fest. It’s ZU, plus Zoom, and In-House = Zero Untitled Uncharted Media Fest! This will be a series of 4 to 5 short plays that are staged via Zoom or Skype, in August or September.

In short, I am to aim for a mix of plays that acknowledge Zoom (think: the new Parks and Recreation episode), ones that acknowledge that there is an interface of some kind (our The Job Interviews series), perhaps a one-man show, or (what we are really hoping for), something we haven’t done yet. I want to explore Zero Untitled’s creativity. For now, this will be an in-house festival (meaning, only ZU writers for now).

The rules and guidelines (which may be subject to change, pending unforeseen problems) are as following:

  • Ten minutes max (roughly)
  • 2-3 characters max
  • Minimal foul language (PG-13)
  • Revivals of old shows are allowed
  • NO political content (this is a preference)
  • We would prefer that play content NOT revolve around pandemic
  • Limited use of props
  • Plays may or may not acknowledge the camera / Zoom interface
  • Please contact us for questions
  • DEADLINE: August 7th, 2020 to zero_untitled_films@yahoo.com

We are really pushing for creativity in this endeavor as I KNOW we are very talented in weird elements, so let’s push it further. Selected plays will be cast in quarantine and productions WILL be filmed for distribution on www.zerountitled.com and on our YouTube account. Please note that one page of dialogue is about a minute of performance.

We would PREFER that playwrights direct their own productions (these will be filmed in screen capture by our crew), but you may offer up the play without your directing expertise. Please note on script or email whether you prefer to direct your own script. Playwrights MAY also act in their own productions.

Not sure if you are a member of Zero Untitled? Email us and we will let you know!

Outdoor Rehearsal wrap up

20190820_184147Our bi-annual Outdoor Rehearsal has wrapped up for the week! We got to meet a LOT of really cool people and even had a several folks come all 4 nights! Not only did we shake the dust off, but got to introduce folks to what we do in our experimental theater company!

We played improv games like CATball, How Did You Do It?, dabbled in improvisational dramatic monologues and scenes, and even had a frisbee duel! Here are some pics of all of the random stuff we did! More pics have been posted on our Facebook pages.

“Outdoor Rehearsals” continue

Outdoor For those interested in seeing what we are cooking for this coming season, we are having our annual “Outdoor Rehearsal” series on the TAMUK campus. Like last year, we will be outside of the Main Dining Hall / Cafeteria area (for the convenience of our student-actors) for two days. For the latter two days, we will be by the infamous Javelina statues.

We will be performing/rehearsing for everyone. We will present both comedic improv games with our Premature Punchline crew, some angst-ridden scene work with our Dramatica Team, and trying some new stuff to get the dust off, and more, all with the hopes that you will join us, hang out, see what we do, and just have a good time! This is a FREE event and there is no obligation to participate (but you would have more fun if you did!). All events start at 6:00.

Aug 20 @ 6:00 – Main Dining Hall / Cafeteria

Aug 21 @ 6:00 – Main Dining Hall / Cafeteria

Aug 22 @ 6:00 – Javelina Statues

This is Zero Untitled’s third time being nominated for an award through the Josephine Foundation (we were nominated in 2017 for best performance by a female twice for Katherine Orozco-Verderber and Rose Gutierrez). “It is my great honor and privilege to announce to you the 2019 JOSIE Awards Nominations for excellence in the Performing Arts for best performances of 2018. This year we had over 5000 voters on line, who nominated performances from all over the metro area. At our June Gala, we will introduce our nominees and at the end of the night announce the winners. Congratulations to all the programs and individuals that were nominated. It is important we recognize excellence in the arts, as being nominated in any of these categories is quite the accomplishment. I look forward to recognizing the nominees and announcing the winners at this year’s 17th Annual Follow Your Dreams Gala on June 21, 2019 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Bravo to all of our amazing nominees…”
