“It is my great honor and privilege to announce to you the 2019 JOSIE Awards Nominations for excellence in the Performing Arts for best performances of 2018. This year we had over 5000 voters on line, who nominated performances from all over the metro area. At our June Gala, we will introduce our nominees and at the end of the night announce the winners. Congratulations to all the programs and individuals that were nominated. It is important we recognize excellence in the arts, as being nominated in any of these categories is quite the accomplishment. I look forward to recognizing the nominees and announcing the winners at this year’s 17th Annual Follow Your Dreams Gala on June 21, 2019 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Bravo to all of our amazing nominees…”

PrePunch performs in Portland

pp1 pp2 pp3 pp4 Here are just a few pics from our performance of “Freeze Tag” at the recent Portland’s Got Talent Live! show. Although the PP crew did not take home the prize, we did get to root on a slew of great local performers strutting their stuff.

The pics look like we had a rap battle, so that is something.

One of our actors, Ben Ortiz, took home the Audience Choice award for his singing, so congrats, Ben!

Premature Punchline are FINALISTS!

port2 Our comedy troupe, Premature Punchline, has made it to the FINALS of the Portland’s Got Talent Live Show! They will be given 5 minutes of stage time (enough for one improv game to perform).

Because we are only allowed to play one game for the contest, we will perform with only some veteran performers (Robert Trujillo, Andrea Lorin, Josue “Zeta” Villarreal, Dawn Robertson, and Michael Verderber).

Performance of all of the Finalists will be at the Windfest Grounds on Thursday, April 11 from 6:00 to 7:30. Premature Punchline will perform towards the end of the event, due to a time conflict.

Return to Bella Luna

ZU Luna3 We will not just be performing comedy, however. We will bring all of the branches to strut their stuff to vary the programming that the venue is asking of us. Next up is the March 22 Dramatica performance; dramatic improv scenes and monologues.

After that, Textual Overture, our variety show, will perform poetry, music, short plays, and skits on April 19th. The MainStage will provide a TBA announced show of scene work and short plays on April 26th.

UPDATE: Remaining April shows have been CANCELLED due to scheduling conflicts with other productions. Our return to the venue will be announced as soon as possible!

dram

With new shows from Premature Punchline every time, the PP group will perform a standard show on May 24th, and provide Penalty Hat (our embarrassing game show) on April 19th, May 10th, and May 31st.

All shows are on Fridays and begin at 9:30. Tickets are $10 at the door or $5 college students with an ID! Reach out to zero_untitled_films@yahoo.com for pre-sale tickets options as well. Here are some photos of the last few performances.

Valentine’s Review

PrePunch w/ Crowd

PrePunch w/ Crowd

Our latest production, Textual Overture’s Pre-Valentine’s Day show, was a packed house of standing room only! With a huge set of performances, troupes, plays, and acts, there was something for everyone. The only thing we didn’t have this time around was a music act, which is usually pretty standard. Here are some photos of the event.

Our set list was:

  • Opening Poem
  • Consequences by Michael Verderber (featuring Merideth Harvey, Crishad Williams, Zulema Villarreal, and Charles “Chuck” Lee)
  • Dramatica (One On One featuring Cristian C., Ben O., Mike M., and Shad W.)
  • Open Mic
  • Poetry by Julio Martinez
  • Premature Punchline (Dating Game featuring Cristian C., Stephanie W, Peter P, and Merideth H)
  • Poetry (Verderber serenading Katy)
  • Heartbreak Rodeo by David Gutierrez (feat. Ben Ortiz and Merideth Harvey)
  • Open Mic, pt 2
  • Stace’s Standup
  • Dramatica (Sessions feat. Ben O, Cristian C., Shad, Mike M, and Kearby)
  • Treason by Katherine Orozco-Verderber (feat. Zulema Villarreal)
  • Open Mic, pt 3
  • “To My Dear and Loving Husband” performed by Katy
  • Closing Words

Pre-Valentine’s Textual Overture

TO - V-Day 2019

This year’s Valentine’s Day show will be under the helm of the Textual Overture branch. The variety show of theatre, music, improv, and poetry will happen on February 13, 2019 at one of our favorite venues, Cafe 5, in Kingsville.

So far on the schedule will be romantic poetry, improvisational dramatic scenes with a V-Day theme by the Dramatica team, improv comedy by the Premature Punchline branch, the world premiere of “Heartbreak Rodeo” (a new play by long-time ZU member David Gutierrez), and a revival of the drama “Consequences” by Michael Verderber.

What will the open mic? Come and find out! See you at the show.
