Flight of the Fireflies (2010 – 2011)
- By Verderber
“Flight of the Fireflies” is Zero Untitled’s fifth firebreathing performance (not including Freakshow I and II). Under the direction of Allan Guzman, the troupe performed in the parking lot behind Cousins Hall on the campus of Texas A&M Univ – Kingsville for several students from Perez Elementary and neighboring schools. Two of Zero Untitled’s firebreathing veteran trained our latest Breather and another Zero vet, Luis Zaragosa.
“Flight…” is thematically tied with the concept of insect migration. Although the cast do not don bug outfits, the concept of the show is broken into two segments:
I) Take Off / The Migration
II) Exit Diapause
Thinking in terms of musicality, segment “I) Take Off / The Migration” was performed October 28, 2010. The second segment “II) Exit Diapause” is named for the return home phase of migration. Diapause is the term for an insect’s hibernation process before the return migration. Performance of “II) Exit Diapause” will be February 18, 2011.
Firefly 01 – Allan Guzman
Firefly 02 – Michael Verderber
Firefly 03 – Luis Zaragosa
“Exit Diapause” was performed on February 18th as part of the GATO Con festivities. Pictures and video up soon.
